Privacy policy
Last updated 23 October 2026
Nexa Rupa Technologies pvt.ltd (“we”) runs BookVaani, an app that turns PDFs you upload into audiobooks. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
What we collect
- Account details: your name and email address.
- Files you upload: the PDFs you choose. We extract their text on our server to split them into chapters, and store that text with your account so you can listen again and on other phones. Translation and narration happen on your phone, using its built-in translation and voice.
- AI summaries: when you open a chapter’s summary, that chapter’s text is sent through OpenRouter to an AI model (Anthropic’s Claude by default) to write the summary, key points and quotes. We store the result so it isn’t generated twice.
- Purchases: which books you unlocked, the price, and the order or purchase ID from Google Play or Razorpay. We do not receive your card or UPI details; the payment provider handles them.
- Usage needed to run the service: how many characters were translated or narrated per day (to apply fair-use limits), and basic server logs (time, request, error) kept for up to 30 days for security and debugging.
We do not use advertising IDs, we do not show ads, and we do not sell or share your personal data for advertising.
How we use it
- To provide the app: sign-in, your library, translation, narration, downloads and unlocks.
- To verify payments and prevent fraud (for example, one payment unlocking two books).
- To respond when you contact support.
Who processes it for us
We use service providers that process data only to provide their service to us:
- Supabase (account sign-in, database and file storage).
- OpenRouter, which passes a chapter’s text to the AI model that writes its summary when you open it, and that model’s provider (Anthropic, for Claude). We use these services through their paid APIs; we don’t allow them to use your chapters to train models.
- Google ML Kit, which translates on your phone. Its language packs are downloaded from Google once; your text is not sent to Google for translation.
- Google Play Billing and Razorpay (payments).
- Our hosting provider (runs the BookVaani server).
Security
All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Uploaded content and audio are stored in private storage that only our server can access.
Retention and deletion
- Deleting a book removes its text and summaries from our servers, and its saved chapters from your phone.
- Deleting your account (in the app under Profile › Delete account, or on our account deletion page) permanently removes your account, books, summaries and unlocks.
- We keep basic payment records (order ID, amount, date) for as long as Indian tax law requires, without your books or email.
Your rights
You can access, correct or delete your data at any time in the app, or by writing to support@bookvaani.com. Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you may also withdraw consent and raise a grievance with us at the same address.
Children
BookVaani is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
We will post any changes here and update the date above. Significant changes will also be shown in the app.
